Reading Resources for Elementary Students
Here are some resources for your child to improve their reading skills. These resources include a video library to help support various reading comprehension skills and strategies, resources for online reading apps, as well as printable resources that coincide with in-class curriculum materials.
20 Minutes a Day!
Reading is SOOOO important for young minds! Evidence suggests that children who read for enjoyment every day not only perform better in reading tests than those who don’t, but also develop a broader vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better understanding of other cultures and world views. In fact, reading for pleasure is more likely to determine whether a child does well at school than their social or economic background. Please have your student read for at least 20 minutes a day either on their own if capable or aloud with a parent, sibling or grandparent.

Videos Lessons for Reading Skills/Strategies/Genres
I teach many different comprehension skills and strategies in my class. These skills and strategies pertain to reading comprehension as well as vocabulary. Some of these skills include determining the main idea of a text, finding the author's point of view, determining the theme or genre of a text, and much more! This section will also include videos on various vocabulary strategies for determining the meaning of unfamiliar words, such as looking at antonyms/synonyms, identifying prefixes and suffixes, understanding similes, etc.
